Canadian Passport Ranks Among the World’s Best
The Canadian passport remains one of the top 10th most powerful passports in the world, ranking 8th in the 2025 Henley Passport Index. Although the Canadian passport ranked lower this year, compared to 2024, where it held the 7th position, it remains more powerful than the U.S passport, which took the 10th position in this new ranking.
Tied with Estonia and the UAE in the 8th position, Canadian passport holders can travel to 184 countries without a visa. Despite strong global access, Canadians still require a visa or e-visa to enter countries like China, India, Brazil, Algeria, Cuba, Pakistan, Venezuela, and Vietnam.
The global ranking passport leaders are Singapore (visa-free to 193 countries), Japan & South Korea (190 countries), and Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Denmark, and Finland (189 countries).
Henley Passport Index creator Dr. Christian H. Kaelin says the rankings highlight how strategic diplomacy and visa agreements shape global mobility. “Access is earned, and must be maintained,” he noted. For Canadian travelers, it’s another year of strong global mobility, even as competition at the top tightens.
